The vison of EXHALE began February 17, 1997. I arrived at the IFC Community Shelter in Chapel Hill, NC. I had traveled many miles from Newark, New Jersy running from abuse. The IFC Shelter was a place that housed men. Due to the battered women shelters in nearby counties (Durham and Wake) being full, the IFC was the place where four other women and I were able to breathe again. That night I .... EXHALED .....
Founder Kate Brodie started organizing awareness luncheons for the community in 2004, "Walking in the Spirit," "You Are Not Alone," "Remember My Name," to address the issues of domestic violence and sexual violence.
